Guilt is a heavy burden to carry. Some people spend years and years running from, hiding from, or trying to cover up guilt.
As a Hypnotherapist in Chigwell, Essex and trained in BWRT® I work with other peoples feelings of guilt frequently.
We’ve all experienced guilt to some degree or another. It’s suggested that some cultures make people feel more guilty than others. People I work with whether British or from across the globe sometimes talk about
Catholic Guilt or guilt from doing things considered haram.
Some people we know seem to feel guilty about the slightest little thing. Others have a guilty look. Let’s face it sometimes guilt has been useful – we might think back to a time of feeling guilty and say “No I’m not doing that again” and so we avoid something that could be damaging to ourselves or to other people. So it that sense a certain degree of guilt can be helpful. But then there is also the guilt that many carry because they survived a war or conflict. The burden of guilt that comes from a time when they wore a uniform and carried out orders – never mind how right the actions or how many decades ago – and the guilt still wakes them in the night.
But however people might appear, we know what it feel like inside. The fear of punishment, the dread that someone will find out. The SHAME that feels almost visible to others. The affects can be profound.
Guilt comes in various guises.
Guilt can be simple or about something you did – “I pushed my brother down the stairs when he was five and he broke his leg, I’ve felt bad ever since”
Or guilt can be complicated, or about something that was done to you – “I should have known better, but the time he kept saying…and I was in a really difficult place, you know…my parents……I had nowhere to go….I felt trapped..and I let it happen”.
Guilt can also about something you still do “I still go to bed with a teddy bear”, or “When I am in the house alone, I ……”
BWRT® can lifted the burden.
BrainWorking Recursive Therapy is amazingly flexible and can help relived or even eradicate feelings of guilt. Quite often when I begin a course of therapy I invite my client to consider if there is a guilty secret that lurks darkly at the back of their mind. For some there is nothing to work on. For others there are quite difficult things going on. Sometimes the persons sitting in front of me is so overwhelmed to find someone they can trust that they open up and it all comes out in a flood before they have had chance to think about it. For others – and this is much more common – they have the desire to be free of the guilt simply cannot bring themselves to talk about it. And that’s fine because we have the Guilty Secret Protocol.
The Guilty Secret Protocol
The amazing thing about this protocol is that I do not need to know anything about the secret. You simply tell me whether it was:
A) something that was done to you that you didn’t choose,
B) something that you did but don’t do any more, or
C) something that you still do, but will stop when I am stronger.
I cannot possibly guess from you this what the issue was, but by telling me “A”, “B”, or “C” I know exactly how to help you work through that feeling.
It seems really simple doesn’t it. Almost too good to be true? It is that good and it is that true. I’ve lost count of the number of people I have helped.
